Fate forged humanity as a compliment to the physical world, and with these two elements in sync, the world had found its most natural state. But as time progressed, mankind began to define and question the morality - that which was once an inherent characteristic of man became otherwise. Killing another, which was regarded as impossible notion- an idea that once couldn't even be comprehended, became more and more prevalent as time progressed. Simply, man began to realize that he could kill, steal, or even manipulate another for his own benefit and sometimes without consequence.

This breakdown of morality meant trouble, as fate was not prepared for this change in humanity. No longer could the physical world function properly alongside this new state of man. And so the dysfunction between humanity and the earth gave birth to the various ills of mankind: plagues, pestilence, wars, and natural disasters. Pandora opening the box.

In an effort to guide the world from its foreseeable destruction, fate fashioned a number of individuals that would serve as mediators. Or to put it more coarsely: janitors of fate. Given powers and foresight, they were able to intervene and prevent disasters. To nudge the balance back onto its proper course. Yet much of their intervention was subtle, as even a small event could join a ripple that would cause a completely unrelated disaster. Just like how a single murder might be just that last needed bit of friction between humanity and the physical world to cause a widespread disaster -- a 7.0 earthquake or a war several continents away.

Amory is one of these individuals of the 21st century, but he does a rather awful job at it.
